The ‘greatest commandments’ Jesus spoke of come down to love: love God and love others.

If our hearts are filled with discord and hate, we are not following God’s commandments and example. It says in 1 Corinthians 13 that no matter how fancy or lovely the words we speak are, without love those words are just noise. They are not helpful.

To really love, we must first know the creator of love. Reading the Bible gives us a glimpse of who God is and the magnitude of his love and forgiveness toward us. From the outpouring of his love, we show love to those around us.

Love can be shown through service. It can be restraint. It can be grace and forgiveness. It can be generosity or patience. There are so many ways for us to love.

God, help me to understand who you are, and how much you love me. May I display love in the way I act, speak and think. Amen.
