Dear Future Wife: A 3-Day Devotional With Cade Thompsonಮಾದರಿ
DAY 1 - Abide in Him and Self Examine
Maybe you’ve had the desire to be in a relationship or be married for a long time, but it seems as if God hasn’t heard your prayers. You may be feeling hopeless. Maybe you have had a broken marriage which has left you questioning yourself and your judgment. Whatever your situation is, I want to encourage you to commit to spending time in God’s presence, praying, and learning His heart through the Bible.
The ache and the emptiness deep in your heart and soul is a reminder that God is the only one who can fill that emptiness. I wrote the framework for my song ‘Dear Future Wife’ during the early months of the 2020 quarantine, all alone in my bedroom…hoping and praying for what God would bring me in a future spouse. It was in this emptiness that I was reminded to stay close to God above all else.
Spend time with Jesus right now at this very moment. He desires to love you more than anyone else on this Earth can love you. As you spend more time with Him, as you abide in Him, as you cherish Him over other relationships, you will begin to hear His truths over your thoughts and desires. Relationships naturally fade when one of the parties is distant, uninviting, aloof, disinterested, preoccupied, distracted, too busy, or simply not paying attention. This is a time to self-examine if this is how you are treating God, even if it is unknowingly and not on purpose.
Doing a self-check-up or the process of self-examining, can be simplified to this question: Are you so deep in thought and so self-focused about your future that you are putting your personal beliefs and understanding higher than the knowledge of God in your situation? God is in everything and is over all things. Take yourself out of the driver’s seat and let God be in control.
“...one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:6 ESV
Draw close to God. Run, walk or crawl back to Him today…let Him guide your heart, mind, and soul again…or maybe for the first time. Ask God to take your thoughts captive in this area of relationships. Do this every day, all day.
“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…” 2 Corinthians 10:5 ESV
PRAYER: “Dear God, here I am. I desire to put you at the center of my life. I pray that while I am in this season of waiting, my heart, my passions, and my desires would line up with yours. I ask for awareness when I am putting my thoughts above yours and asking you to swiftly re-direct my attention to you. Help me to make you my first love.” AMEN

About this Plan
I hope this devotion touches the hearts of people that are in a similar season of waiting, those that are in a season of single parenting, as well as those searching for healing after a broken marriage. The waiting is worth it as you trust God with your journey. - Cade Thompson
