God's Will Is Not Lost

DAY 4 OF 5

We often think about and discuss God's will in the future tense, as if God's will is merely something that will happen someday. And yes, God's will continues to unfold throughout time, and as believers, we can know there's no need to fear the future because God is already there.

But God's will is also here. Right now. Happening today. Right where you are. Right where I am.

And it's all too easy to miss out on God's will right now because we're too focused on what's next.  So if you find yourself constantly contemplating, "How does God want to use me?", try asking a new question: “Where does God have me?”

Wherever God has you right now, He has plans to use you there. Like Matthew 6:34 instructs us, we are not to worry about tomorrow because worrying about tomorrow steals from the effectiveness we can have today.

How? The first part of the answer is right there in Matthew 6:33: "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

We will become aware of God's will when we seek Him first and trust Him for everything else. But all too often, we seek "all the things" instead and wonder why God's will feels far away. And that's because God's will is always first and fully wrapped up in Him. We won't be able to find God's will apart from Him.

And the second part of the answer is in Galatians 5:25: keep in step with the Spirit. We must get in the habit of refusing to run before God or lag behind him.

We see this clearly in God's call of Abram. Pay attention to the phrase in Genesis 12:1 that God uses. He told Abram to go "to the land that I will show you."

Really let that sink in. When Abram left his country, he didn't know where he was going. But he trusted God would show him, and that was enough to prompt him to go. God's will is not something you have to wait for. That doesn't mean that His will for you will never include waiting. But waiting is part of His will, not a lead-up to it.

We typically won't get the luxury of knowing how God will work everything out for His glory and our good. But we can be confident that He will.  He has been faithful before, and He will be faithful again.

God, I am confident You are always working, so today, I just want you to know that I am going to the land that I trust You will show me. I'm all in for Your work today. Wherever You will and whatever You will, that's all I want. I trust You for everything else. I'll worship. I'll work. I'll wait. And I trust You to order my steps for Your glory and the good of others. Amen.
