The Saviour
Can you hear John’s passion for telling you why Jesus came! Yet again, in chapter 3, he reveals the plan of salvation but now from Father God’s perspective. It was Father God who sent his Son not to condemn it but to save it. You can feel the trinity of love working throughout the book of John. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all involved in this plan of redemption to bring light and life to the world through Jesus. It is because God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. How grateful are you to Father God for that incredible act of giving!
And why did Father God do that? Not to condemn it but to save it. And the key to receiving this incredible gift, once again, is to believe in him. God delivered the nation of Israel from the bondage of Egypt. He liberated the Israelites from captivity and miraculously ferried them across dry land through the seabed of the Red Sea. Many times, God delivered the armies of Joshua as he led them into the Promised Land. Countless numbers of David’s Psalm recount God’s faithfulness in delivering David from peril. God has proven himself over and over that he is a saviour.
Scripture tells us that he saved us from many things. Jesus saved us from sin and guilt (Isaiah 53:6), causing the sin to fall on him (Hebrews 9:26). Christ saved us from being separated from God. The enmity we experience between ourselves and God because of our sin was removed and turned that into favour with God (Hebrews 2:17). We are not saved by our efforts or our works (Rom 3:10). We are not saved by being good people. There is only one way to be saved, and that is by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ.
