Eyes to See, Ears to Listen

He sees many things, but does not observe them; his ears are open, but he does not hear. 

Isaiah 42:20 (ESV)

From verse 42:18-25, Israel was in great trouble because they were as blind as the Gentiles and deaf to what the Lord was saying. They did not obey and follow God. The book of Isaiah can be very intimidating with words that can be totally foreign. With the help of the Holy Spirit, verses from Isaiah 41-43 started to come alive. In this life, if we are not led by the Spirit, we will live blind and deaf to God’s Word. I have found in particular, that I had been foolishly getting into heated discussions and arguments without resolution, because of my pride. My pride had closed my eyes and ears to what others were saying and doing. I was only seeing and hearing what I wanted. When God showed me that my pride was getting in the way, my eyes and ears were miraculously opened. I began to understand what other people were saying rather than trying to defend my prideful arguments.

Prayer

Father in heaven, I pray that You open our eyes and ears to the folly that we inflict upon ourselves. I pray that You cleanse us with the blood that Jesus shed on the cross, of our sinful pride. Overfill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we can see with our eyes and listen with our ears. Amen.
