Who I Say God Is

DAY 4 OF 7

God: a hard taskmaster?

God is sovereign: He can and does do whatever He likes. And although He created us all equal, He has gifted some of us more than others. Do we begrudge Him His generosity, or do we obey Him and invest our gifts for His Kingdom and glory?

We are all gifted in some way or other. What God wants us to do with our gifts is to invest them for His glory. To bury our talent like a miser is to be like a kid who discards the bike his dad just got him for a present.

When we do walk in obedience to God, that most gracious master, He rewards us. The new creation will be wonderful for all God's children. But some will have more responsibility in the cosmos to come than others, in proportion with how faithful they are in this life.

We mustn't have a hard view of God. We mustn't blasphemously accuse Him of being a hard taskmaster. That is an unfair misrepresentation of the God of justice, mercy, and love, as revealed in His word.

'God of justice, may we go all out to glorify You in our lives, and so to enjoy greater responsibilities in the creation to come. For the honour of Your name, amen.'

Are you ever tempted to view God as a hard taskmaster? Does today's passage help you to reset the balance?

About this Plan

Who I Say God Is

We often like to think and sing about 'Who God Says I Am,' but what if we were to change the focus from us to God? Is our understanding of 'Who I Say God Is' accurate, or do we have a distorted view of the Divine? Let's consider different conceptions of God in the Bible, as we seek to realign our visions to the Truth.
