The Choice of Excellence

DAY 7 OF 7

Live With Moral Excellence

“You are the light of [Christ to] the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 AMP

There is much debate on morality and whether it is only about individual choices or if our choices have a significant impact on others. What I have found is that people want to make their own choices but prefer that others make the same choices as they do. We also want people to make moral choices that either have a positive effect or no effect on our lives. When others start to make moral choices that begin to affect the world negatively, then we want something done.

In Jesus' sermon on the mount, He reminds us that how we live and the choices we make have an impact on the world around us. He tells us to be salt and light. Salt makes things taste better and preserves things for later. Light allows us to see better and helps dispel fear. The way that He says our light shines before men is by doing good deeds and living a life of moral excellence. The impact of our daily choices is far-reaching. May we live a life of moral excellence so our light shines brightly before men and they see Jesus more clearly.
