Real Hope: Courageous Faith

DAY 2 OF 5

Being Courageous In Love

How do we as a society rate courage?

Perhaps it’s having the guts to go on a wild roller coaster, or a tower of terror with a drop fast enough to leave your stomach behind. Maybe it’s the willingness of health care workers to show up each day in the middle of a pandemic. Or maybe it’s the moment when someone risks everything to start up a small business not knowing if it will grow or fail.

Whatever it is that you think exemplifies courage in this world, I want you to think about the courage needed to love.

If we think about the way in which Jesus loved, you cannot deny that it took courage. Jesus gave up His life so that we might live. In courageous love, He bowed to the will of His Father. And so, I see a call for us to be courageous in loving our Father, and loving those around us (Luke 10:27).

It takes courage to reserve time each day to prioritise time in Scripture and prayer. It takes courage to admit our sin before a holy God, but He wants to hear from us. It takes courage to give up other opportunities in order to show love to our fellow believers on a Sunday. And it takes courage to strike up a conversation about Jesus with someone from a community group or sporting team, but what a wonderful show of love that is.

The Lord is our helper. We need not be afraid.

About this Plan

Real Hope: Courageous Faith

The Christian life is not easy. It’s messy. It calls for us to be ‘in the world but not of the world’. This devotional theme is intended to challenge. It is intended to ask you to take stock of how you’re running the race marked out for you. In a world that is increasingly opposed to faith, how can we continue to stand courageously in its midst?
