Radically Restored to Oneness With God

DAY 1 OF 5

Jesus came to restore that which was lost—our connection with God. It is through salvation that Jesus restores our identity as children of God. When we put our trust in Jesus, are saved and born again, Jesus fulfills the Father’s intent for us to live in oneness with Him.

We have been restored to a new reality. As followers of Jesus “we live and move and exist” in Him as His children (Acts 17:28). The profound nature of this restoration has significant implications for how disciples who want to reveal Jesus live out their personal spirituality and journey. John affirms that our role in the world is to be like Jesus in our daily lives:

“Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world” (1 John 4:15-17).

Without the revelation of these truths, we do not live lives that give Jesus His full reward. We do not realize the extraordinary inheritance we have been given through our restored oneness with God and our new identity as children of God (see Colossians 1:12). We overlook the invitation to pursue Him in the transformation to fulfill our destiny to be like Him in every way (see Romans 8:29).

In His unbounded love, God became what we are (human) so that we might be transformed by Him. God invites us to walk with Him in complete confidence, knowing we are accepted by Him as we are. It is through this relational process of abiding in Him that we experience transformation—becoming like Him and loving like Him. And in being radically restored to oneness with God, we then apply ourselves to a lifestyle of being radically restored to oneness with others.
