How to Live Satisfied with Alyssa Joy Bethkeಮಾದರಿ
Day 5: The Power of Scripture
What’s the state of your heart, friend? Overwhelmed? Frustrated? Resentful? Prideful? Go off by yourself. Wait for hope to appear. Hear what He has to say to you. He will speak. He will comfort. He will shine light. He will lead. He is for you and with you. And you will come away with His indefinable peace.
Lately, I’ve been copying Scripture into a journal for ten minutes each day. I’ve gone through a few books of the New Testament, and I’ve been blown away by how such a simple act produces such great fruit. When I go for my walks and pray, his Word comes to my mind. When I’m talking to a friend, a verse pops into my head to share with them. When I’m struggling to get through my day with joy, or to have hope in a situation, His Word comes to mind, and I can recite it out loud. His word is richly dwelling within me.
His words are transforming me. And it’s so simple—I’m planting his words in my heart, and they are changing me. But I have to constantly weed out the things that don’t help my garden. Music lyrics that get stuck in my head that don’t uplift me. Shows that make me feel yucky. Resentful thoughts that start to ricochet in my head like a ping-pong ball. Complaining and grumbling in my heart that go unchecked.
Put on love. Put on thankfulness. Put on praise. Put on truth. My hope is that we would be women who exude peace, joy, and love. My hope is that our lips would proclaim His goodness, and our hearts would trust in Him.
My hope is that we would be known as women who are present and love well. But we can do this only when we tend the garden of our hearts. Hear this, friend: the hard work is worth it. Oh, what beauty and bounty will unfold as we continue to meet with the Gardener of our souls and let Him do his faithful and good work in us.
Let’s go off into the secret place, quiet the noise, and be with the One who loves us best.
