Through the Bible: 1 Chroniclesಮಾದರಿ
A Heart for God
David said to Solomon, “My son, I had it in my heart to build a house to the name of the Lord my God. 1 Chronicles 22:7 (ESV)
Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God. Arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God may be brought into a house built for the name of the Lord. 1 Chronicles 22:19 (ESV)
First Chronicles focuses on the hearts of God’s people. The heart is referenced repeatedly because our actions follow the leanings of our hearts.
It was in David’s heart to build a house for the Lord - a temple for His presence and name. When God told David he would not get to build the temple but that the honor would fall to one of his sons, David remained humble and yielded to God’s will. But such was David’s zeal that he did not stop there. Instead, seeing that Solomon was young and inexperienced, David went through great pains to support his son in the work by making preparations to provide workmen and great quantities of materials for the construction. He was determined to leave a legacy that would honor the Lord. David also instructed Solomon to be careful to follow God’s laws and to seek Him passionately. Truly from his actions we can see David as a man after God’s own heart.
Prayer
Dear Lord, may we have a heart that seeks after You like David’s - always desiring to please You and doing all that we can to magnify Your name. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
About this Plan
Written in the postexilic period, the books of Chronicles present the history of Israel with a purpose very different from the other historical books like that of Books of Samuel and Kings - to remind the despairing remnants that God’s promise to bring forth a Messiah through the royal Davidic lineage still stands. Heaven and earth will pass away, but the LORD’s faithfulness endures forever.
