Daily Bible Reading – June 2021, God’s Word of Hope

DAY 23 OF 30

June 23

Introduction

In the restored Jerusalem, foreigners are welcome. Portions of the Law had excluded foreigners and certain groups of people (see Deuteronomy 23:1-3), but all are now invited to take part in the new community of God’s people. The Israelites who returned to Jerusalem after the exile will now be joined by non-Israelites in worshiping God. Today’s reading concludes with a condemnation of Israel’s leaders who acted unjustly.

Today’s Scripture Reading

Isaiah 56:1-12

Today’s Key Verse: Isaiah 56:7b

[The LORD says] “My Temple will be called a house of prayer for the people of all nations.”

Reflect

Who is invited to be part of God’s new worshiping community? What is promised to those who observe the Sabbath? In what ways does your community of faith reach out to others and welcome them?

Pray

Sovereign God, you invite people from all nations to worship you. Teach me to honor you and faithfully keep your covenant. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer Concern

Communities of faith seeking to welcome all people

Tomorrow’s Reading

Jeremiah 29:1-23: The prophet Jeremiah sends a letter to the Jewish exiles in Babylonia.
