DAY 3 OF 7

A Courageous Heart

One of our most memorable holidays was to East Africa; the Mara in Kenya, where we spent 10 glorious days in the savannah. What mesmerised me the most was watching the lions. I had seen them before in captivity. But there is something about seeing a lion out in the open − strong; courageous; majestic; dignified; stately and with absolute confidence in who they are.

It got me thinking about the contrast between how God intended for us to behave in our workplace ‘savannahs’ and how we actually do. Are we held captive to the opinion of those around us, constantly wondering what they will think, worried about what our superiors’ opinion is and doing what we do to fit in?

Physics talks about a principle called the ‘path of least resistance,' which is doing the bare minimum to get by, not ruffling too many feathers and focusing on the low hanging fruit.

Can we take on the hard stuff that so many avoid? Can we stand up against the injustice that many turn a blind eye to? Can we speak out, when we see something unethical happening? Can we be like a courageous, confident lion, the way He intended us to be?

Let us remind ourselves of today’s verse from Proverbs. God has called us to be courageous in every difficult situation at the workplace, in every decision we make and to stand up and speak out for what we believe is right.

Is it practical or possible to be this way? Yes, even when we live in a cut-throat competitive world, we can still be this way. Because our faith is simple – our future and even our present aren’t in the hands of our superior or, in fact, anybody at work! It is in the hands of our Father. We are His children, we depend on Him and He will take care of us.

What is that decision or situation you have been shying away from? Remember the lion as you start your day. Be strong, courageous, dignified and confident in the Lord.

Father, thank You that my future and my career are in Your hands alone. I ask You for a heart of courage in everything I do. Amen

About this Plan

It Always Begins With the Heart

The Bible says the heart is the wellspring of life. So, how do we check our heart health? In this study, Deepa Chandrasekhar poses some searching questions to our hearts – are we content, gracious, courageous, humble, tranquil, generous and sincere? Have we thought about the contrast between how God intended for us to behave in our workplaces and how we actually do behave?
