How To Stop Worrying

DAY 3 OF 4

You Are God’s Personal Concern

Check out 1 Peter 5:7: “Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully” (AMP).

I like to read that verse in the J. B. Phillips translation: “You can throw the whole weight of your anxieties upon him, for you’re his personal concern.”  Imagine that — you are God’s personal concern!

Think of it like being the personal concern of the governor or some other important person. Of course, the governor is concerned with the well-being of all the people in his state. Everyone is the public concern of the governor. But only the governor’s family and those people under his immediate jurisdiction are his personal concern.

Even though the governor of your state is your governor, you probably don’t have his personal cell phone number. Or even if you somehow have it, you can’t call and get him out of bed in the middle of the night to come help you. Only his wife and children can do that, because he is involved in the everyday workings of their lives. They are his personal concern.

That’s how it is with God and you — you’re His personal concern! He is personally involved in every detail of your life. When you call, He drops everything to listen. You’ll never get His voicemail or a busy signal. You don’t have to talk to one of His aides; you have direct access to Him. He cares!

When we know this truth, we can have more confidence in casting our cares onto God. We know He’s paying attention to fixing them. We don’t have to keep going back to check on them. He has everything covered. It’s like Him saying, “Give me that worry. I’ll take care of it.”
