WORSHIP
By Nick Kalb
Story
True story: The first time I saw people raise their hands in worship, it freaked me out. I looked around to see if others were weirded out, but they seemed to think it was normal. I was too shy to say anything about it at the time, but I learned that people do it because it's a way to show God that we’re giving stuff that worries us over to Him. Some people even say it’s like holding His hand!
Bible
“O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.” — Psalm 63:1
Think
We start out by thinking that we worship because we feel a certain way about God. People often look real happy or intense during worship. We may think that if we don’t feel that way then there must be something wrong with us. That’s not true!
We don’t worship God because of how we feel about Him, but because of how He feels about us. We worship God because of who He is and because of the things He has done. So, there is always a reason to raise our hands and sing no matter how we feel. As we get into the habit of worshipping God, we’ll find that we are changed by it more and more.
Do Something
What worship song do you like to sing? Sing it when you’re by yourself. I have a worship song I like to sing in the morning and a song I like to sing when I’m scared. How about you?
Pray
Dear God, thank You for giving us a chance to get to know You through worship. Help me to remember I can worship You anytime, and that my worship is all about how amazing You are and about the amazing things You've done, are doing, and will do. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
