Everyday Life in Revelation: Part 4 the Seals

DAY 4 OF 5

After reading this passage, one cannot help but imagine large-scale, universe transforming judgment. Some will read this as literal happenings. More than likely this is figurative language. The Old Testament describes God’s judgment using the same kind of language.

Isaiah 13 describes the fall of Babylon with similar imagery. No doubt, there was much violence when the Persians conquered Babylon, but the stars did not stop shining in 538 BC. Jeremiah 4:24 is in the same vein. This passage is concerning the fall of Judah to Babylon. Lives were ruined and a whole society disturbed, but mountains did not move when the Babylonians marched upon Jerusalem.

So as we read this passage, we have a sense of the final judgment. What is the point for us to take away? The Lord will judge all those who oppose Him. Even the most powerful people will not escape the judgment. Nothing will protect the enemies of God’s people during judgment day. With this truth, it is foolish for us to put our trust in anything other than the grace and power of our God. Our security is found in God alone.
