Jonah – a Man With a Message

DAY 7 OF 7

A Chance to Repent

The Bible tells us that we have all done wicked things. We all have a tendency towards hardheartedness. The Bible tells us that when we sin, there is a punishment.

God was ready to punish the Ninevites for their wickedness, but in His compassion, justice, and mercy He sent Jonah with a message and a chance for them to repent and be saved.

The Pharisees were very wicked, but God, in His compassion, justice, and mercy, sent Jesus with a message of salvation if they would only repent.

Did you know that when you do something mean or wrong or disobedient, God stretches out His compassion and mercy towards you? Every moment of every day He offers you and me a chance to repent and turn from our wickedness.

Have you ever felt sad inside because of something bad you’ve done? That’s God sending His Holy Spirit with a message – a chance for you to repent and be saved from your sin.

The Bible says that if we confess our sins to God, He will be faithful and forgive – just like He forgave the wicked Ninevites. When you respond to God’s message by softening your heart before Him, He will come with compassion and wash away all your sins.

It’s a wonderful, happy thing to be saved from wickedness. Just like the city of Ninevah, when you turn from sin and cry out to God, you can rejoice in God’s salvation.

And then everyone is happy!

Here is a prayer you can pray: “God, I want to soften my heart before you. I believe your word and I repent of all my sins. I receive your salvation in the name of Jesus and I thank you. I love you, God! You are my Lord. Amen!”
