THE COSMIC CHRISTಮಾದರಿ
Colossae was a city in Asia Minor, the place we know today as Turkey.
Paul’s greetings always identify himself and his office. He is an “apostle” – a appointed messenger – of Christ Jesus. That indicates what his message is as well as who sent him. His message is Christ Jesus.
Who is audience? The holy people of God in Colossae. Paul is so ready to give thanks to God for them. It is their faith and love that drive him to thankfulness. He has heard of their deep trust in the promises of God made in Christ Jesus and the way that has been accompanied by love. Where did this faith and love come from? It came to them because of the hope in the gospel of Jesus Christ. That is: they were able to have faith and love because of the security given to them in knowing what God has for them in heaven.
This theme will shape the Colossian letter. Faith and love are constant companions in the Christian life; and they come from the way in which we are called to face the future – in hope. We are given a hope which makes faith and love possible in the present life, despite whatever difficulties surround us.
Prayer
Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, please make my life abound with faith and love springing from the hope that comes from the gospel. Amen

About this Plan
Colossians has always been one of my favourite letters from the New Testament. Paul combines a spectacular vision of Jesus at the centre of the cosmos with practical teaching about living as a Christian.
