The Good Life: A Five-Day Youth Guide to Spiritual Habits

DAY 2 OF 5

Day Two: Pray

By Sean Fryer

“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”  1 Peter 5:7

Think for a second about the person in your life that you are closest to . . .

Chances are, you talk to them every day!

Communication is the foundation to any relationship. If you don’t communicate, you don’t grow the relationship! And guess what? A relationship with God works the same way! If you don’t communicate with God, you can’t grow your relationship with Him!

We’ve already talked about how God communicates to us: It’s through His Word! That’s how we hear what God has to say! And it’s so important that we listen to what He has to say!

However, God invites us to communicate back to Him! And prayer is how we talk to God. 1 John tells us that whatever we ask according to His will, He hears us! Think about that: God hears you when you pray! But chances are, if you’re reading this, you already know that prayer is important. So, how do you actually do it? How do you pray?

Well, thankfully for us, Jesus gives us a formula in Matthew 6. He says that when we pray, we need to get alone. Why would Jesus say that? Because when you’re alone, the real you comes out. Jesus isn’t after some fake version of us that we put on for other people. Jesus isn’t after the cliche sayings that we use with everyone. Jesus is after our heart! He wants the real us! And when we’re alone, we can cast our cares on Him. We can bring all our faults, failures, and mistakes. We can be honest about what is weighing us down.

PAUSE: Take some time now to pray and cast your anxieties on Him.

PRACTICE: Think about how you can make prayer a part of your daily life!

PRAY: God, help me to get alone with You and pray every day. Help this become a consistent habit in my life. Amen.
