Make Space for What Matters: 5 Spiritual Habits for Lent

DAY 2 OF 7

Spiritual Habits: Prayer

Is there anything that stops you from talking to God regularly?

Prayer simply means talking to God, and then listening to Him. And because Jesus said several times, “When you pray…,” we know that He expects us to pray, too.

Becoming comfortable praying may take practice, but that doesn’t have to keep you from confidently pursuing intimacy with Him.

God is always waiting to draw near to you, and nothing you say to Him could ever stop Him from loving you.

Lent is a great time to start making prayer a daily habit. If you try to structure your life around God but don’t take the time to talk with Him, it will be impossible to keep your life focused on God.

It is easier to grow spiritually when you’re honest with God about your growth. And when you talk to God about how you’re doing, it will start to remind you that God truly is with you, and that He delights in being with you. So today, take some time to have an honest conversation with God.

Take Action: If you’re not sure what to pray about, try praying through the Lord’s Prayer and then make it your own.

Our Father in heaven,

may your name be kept holy.

May your Kingdom come soon.

May your will be done on earth,

as it is in heaven.

Give us today the food we need,

and forgive us our sins,

as we have forgiven those

who sin against us.

And don’t let us yield to temptation,

but rescue us from the evil one.
