The Gospel of Mark

DAY 29 OF 42

Mark again posed the question, “Who is Jesus?” to his readers. This time, Jesus answered the question Himself. After telling a parable, one that clearly showed what the Pharisees and teachers of the law were doing, Jesus quoted Psalm 118.

Psalm 118, a psalm of praise for the coming Messiah, is the same psalm the people shouted as Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a colt. They proclaimed He was the Messiah days earlier. His parable told of a rejected son, and then, this Messianic psalm He quoted affirmed the Messiah, though the chosen One whom God would use for a greater purpose, would first be rejected.

Jesus, though rejected, has become the cornerstone. He is our foundation, our assurance. What God brought about through Jesus’ rejection, death, and resurrection is truly marvelous. He is the cornerstone. We can put our faith in Him.

Lord, You are the Messiah. You are the cornerstone, the foundation of all things. Your ways are always good and right. Help me to fully place my faith in You today. Amen.
