Speak Your Name: Devotions and Declarations on the Reality of Jesusಮಾದರಿ
Jesus, My Peace
Peace is such an interesting thing. Oftentimes, peace is hard to explain. One of the easiest ways to recognize peace is by recognizing what it feels like to be without it. Can you remember a season or situation when you didn’t have peace? Or, maybe you’re currently in a situation when you lack peace.
Friend, peace is a fruit of His Spirit. Peace is something that has been freely given to you by Jesus and through Jesus. Peace is yours for the taking.
Maybe you’re thinking right now, But if Jesus has truly given me peace, why am I not experiencing peace? Good question. Although peace has been given to us by His Spirit, and it is ours for the taking, we also get to decide whether or not to receive it. Just like God gave us free will and free choice with everything else, He gives us a choice when it comes to following His peace.
When you become a child of God, the things of the flesh no longer satisfy you, but only the things of His Spirit. John 6:63 says, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing…” Oftentimes, we can trace back to the moment our peace went missing, to that moment when we tried to satisfy the flesh instead of letting the Spirit satisfy us. Jesus didn’t leave us, but the absence of His peace is simply because we chose to satisfy the flesh which is no longer satisfying, and no longer who we are anymore. Satisfying the flesh no longer truly satisfies, because we are now made of His Spirit.
This is not Jesus being cruel. He is not taking away the gift He gave us. When we lack peace in our decisions, it’s because we tried to mix death with life, and His peace is only life.
Friend, where do you need peace today? Where is it that you need to experience the presence of His Spirit that brings life? The good news—peace is already yours; all you have to do is receive it. Choose Jesus, who brings your spirit and true self life and peace.
Declaration Prayer:
Jesus, You are my peace. Your Spirit has given me life and now all that brings me true life is found in Your Spirit. I want to live in Your ways of pleasantness and follow Your paths of peace. I receive all that You died to give me. You have given me peace for my mind, body, and soul and I receive it all. Thank you, Jesus!
