Like the Deer Pants for Water
Psalm 42:2a
I thirst for the living God.
Water is very important to the human body. When you are thirsty and tired, the first thing that comes to your mind is water. It is because water will refresh your body.
King David wrote, “As the deer pants for streams of water”. He might be imagining a deer in the desert, a dry place with no water. It longs for water to quench its thirst.
Just like how water is so important to your physical body, the living God is equally important to your soul. King David wrote that he was thirsty for God and he wanted more of God as much as how we really want to have a sip of water when we’re tired and thirsty. It reminds us that God refreshes us and restores us when we spend time with Him, just like water refreshes and restores us when we are hot and thirsty.
Do not replace your thirst for God with other things, like sports, movies, social media, or foods. They are all temporary and they will not quench the thirst of your soul. Only God can quench the thirst of your soul.
Prayer
Dear God, You are the living water that refreshes my soul. Guide me to learn more of Your words. Amen.
