Let You Be

DAY 2 OF 5

Hearing and Receiving

Now that we have understood what it means to truly wait on God, let's learn to cut out the background noise so we can hear him clearly.

Through personal experience, I have learnt that in order to hear from God and hear Him well, we need to remove all distractions and seek His face. The Hebrew word for ‘seek’ is ‘Baqash’ – to seek, to search, to consult (Jeremiah 29:13).

Seeking His face doesn’t mean sitting in a corner or hiding away; rather, it means being intentional with our search and inquiry. I remember complaining to my mentor that I couldn’t hear from God. My mentor replied, ‘when your father wants to tell you something, does he shout? If you’re close enough to him, you would hear’. (1 Kings 19). The question is, are you close to him? Are you seeking Him with your whole heart? Do you read His Word?

Often times, the best place to hear from God is through the Word. The word of God is the gateway to our hearts and is the most peaceful place we can be. I have been in situations where God has shown me what I am looking for during a tough season and has given me the specific word that would get me through. However, it was through persistent prayer and seeking.

‘A word from you is all I need,
Just a drop of hope for the day.’

Receiving a word from God gives us hope and something to hold on to. With everything going on in the world right now, the only thing we have to hold onto is hope. Hope that God is moving, hope that He will change our circumstances and hope that something new is coming. How can we receive a word from God? How do we hear what God is saying to us when we need it the most? – Be still (Psalm 46:10).

In times of stillness, we are able to hear God and receive ‘a word’ from Him.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be still and know you are sovereign. Open my ears and heart to receive from you.

About this Plan

Let You Be

Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God has great plans for us, not of evil, not to harm us but to give us hope and a future. Sometimes, it's hard to believe with the situations we are faced with. This 5-day plan seeks to remind us of how to trust God and walk with him through life. The plan is inspired by Uchenna's new single 'Let You Be'.
