Stand Out: Living for Christ in a Corrupt Worldಮಾದರಿ
Glorify God in Your Body
6:12-20: In these verses, we see that the Corinthians thought that they had the freedom to use prostitutes. So, Paul corrects their false view of Christian liberty. He says that sexual immorality is a sin against Christ (v. 15), one’s own body (vv. 16-18), and the Spirit (vv. 19-20).
Many religions see the soul or spirit as spiritual and the body as unspiritual. But the Bible opposes such a view. Both soul and body are created by God. John tells us that even the Son of God “became flesh” (Jn 1:14).
In the Corinthian culture, going to prostitutes was an acceptable practice. But Paul reminds the Corinthian believers that their bodies belong to the Lord and are destined for resurrection (vv. 13-14). That’s why they must not defile their bodies with sin. Instead, they are commanded to glorify God in their bodies (v. 20). If we live in a rented house, we will be careful not to destroy that house, right? Your body belongs to God. Don’t defile it. Glorify God in your body!
Prayer: Lord, grant me your grace to live a holy life and glorify you in my body.
