The Journey to Freedom from Sexual Shameಮಾದರಿ
Being a Sexual Being
In the beginning... you were created. Before you took your first breath, you were already a sexual being; a male human or a female human, an identity rooted in your body, all the way down to the cellular level. God saw you, and He saw you as a son or daughter, and He loved. you.
He loves you still.
Your Creator designed all of your anatomy, your hormones, your physical and mental structures for experiencing intimacy and connection. He loves you—all of you. He loves you as an embodied person who bears His image. He isn't ashamed of any part of you, and every part of your mind and body has purpose, because sex—maleness and femaleness and the ways in which they interact—is His design.
It's not a mistake. You're not a mistake.
You were created for love and intimacy, to receive and give affection and attention. Your body and your mind reflect this. and the possibility of finding a deeper experience of this with another, one with whom you covenant, and live and adventure, and experience pleasure.
That's the Creator's desire, that pleasure would be experienced in His presence. And that pleasure is reflected in the sexual union of a man and a woman, joined in union as a husband and a wife. A pleasure that protects from isolation and loneliness; a pleasure that is life-giving; a pleasure that proclaims His creation and redemption.
Your sexual identity as a son or daughter and your stewardship of sexual activity as an image bearer symbolize and embody the essence of God's creation, redemption, and purification of His people. It is a story you have been invited into, one that you are living out every day, because the story of sex is ultimately the story of God's love for His people.
Pain has entered this journey; mistakes have marred the path. That's also part of the story. But it's for another time.
Right now, accept that you were created just as you ought to be. You needn't cover yourself; you need not hide from God. You're beloved, and God will show you that today, in a thousand small ways. Receive them—because that's the path of healing on this journey to freedom.
Have you believed some part of you is a mistake? What changes if you believe every part of you has purpose?
