Book of Jonah

DAY 1 OF 3

HOW TO RESPOND TO GOD’S CALLING

But to each one of us, grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.(Ephesians 4:7)

We learn from the story of Jonah in chapter one that he is like a private detective agent who is sent by his boss to do an assignment in a certain place. The same thing applies to us. We are God’s people, His servants who receive a call to serve Him. Are we ready to accept this call?

When Jonah was asked to go to Nineveh, he tried to run away from God’s calling by going on a ship to Tarshish. Why did Jonah run away? It was not because Jonah did not like this task. It’s because Jonah did not like the city and the people of Nineveh.

Nineveh was an evil city in the eyes of the Lord. Jonah might have been afraid to preach the news of salvation to the people in Nineveh because the people of Nineveh were notorious for their wickedness.

Like Jonah, we might feel afraid upon seeing the place of our ministry. We are afraid of the process that we are going to face. We are afraid of failure and we are afraid to disappoint others. For those who are used to ministering, they might avoid doing a certain ministry because the time does not suit them or the place of that ministry is not comfortable enough. We might even allow other things to get in the way.

Where do we want to run to avoid God's call of duty? God's great love for us and His intention to bless our lives comes in blessing others. Our ministry experiences with the Lord will make us know Him more and become spiritually mature so that we can testify of the greatness of God in our ministries.

We did not choose God. God chose us that we should go and bear fruit.
