A Mid-Wife Crisis
Have you ever felt like you are going through a mid-wife crisis? I don’t mean a mid-life crisis, but a mid-wife crisis. This happens after you have been a wife for a few years. The honeymoon phase is over, and you often find yourself disappointed with your husband and marriage. You reminisce about the days when you were single and longed to be a wife. Do you remember those days? You thought you were “wife material;” you knew you would “rock” the wifey role. The idea of cooking for your future husband made you happy. You daydreamed of the day you could wake up right next to him. But now, you find yourself tired of cooking yet another meal, nagging him , and wanting more out of marriage.
I want to encourage and remind you of what the wifey role is about. The Word of God is filled with wisdom that we can apply specifically to our role as a wife. We do not need to be reminded of how we used to feel before marriage, but of our calling as a wife. We cannot dwell on our past ways, or emotions, because no one was ever meant to stay the same. Change in marriage is inevitable. Life comes in seasons (Ecclesiastes 3:1–8). Everybody goes through seasons of being tired, but your role as a wife is powerful. It is good that you want more out of your marriage. Being a wife is not about cooking and cleaning while your husband goes to work. You were created to be his helper (Genesis 2:18). You are there to help build a life with your husband—a long-lasting life that will impact your legacy. You have the ability to speak life to your husband and are his treasure (Proverbs 31:10–12, Ecclesiastes 9:9). This is what the Word of God says about you as a wife.
Wifey, you are not just a woman committed to survive in a marriage until death do you part. You were called to thrive in your marriage (Ephesians 5:31–32). Whether you are happily married, or tired, nagging, and simply disappointed, I want you to take this moment to think about God’s grace. Receive His grace over your life and then extend it to your husband today. Through this devotional, let’s be encouraged with His Word regarding all that God created you for in this wifey life.
