Faithful God: A Devotional From I Am Theyಮಾದರಿ
Day 2: LOVE
Close your eyes and say the word “faithful.” Who comes to mind? God? Yes. Who else? Your dog? Yes. Who else? Your spouse? Yes! For me, when I think about faithfulness, one of the first images to pop into my mind is Grandma’s house. That’s right. Ohhhhh, we all know there’s no place like Grandma’s house.
Yes, Nanny’s house is one of my favorite places in the whole wide world. So many memories chock full of love. Even now as an adult, the closer I get to her house on the drive there, the more excited I get. When I take the steps up to her front door and knock, I know my grandma is waiting there expectantly for me with arms wide open.
If you have a grandma like mine, you understand the magic of Grandma’s house. Everything about it is instant nostalgia. The smells in the air that can only be described as “Grandma’s smell.” Everything is so comfortable and familiar. The dish of nuts on the counter, the popsicles in the freezer, the family pictures on the walls, even the soft worn in shower towels all reflect the thoughtfulness, love, and faithfulness of Grandma.
I understood from a young age that my grandma’s love for me couldn’t be changed by any past, present, or potential choice that I made. The reason why her home feels the way it does is because of the love I’m given there. There’s nothing like a late night game of cribbage with a plate of cheese and crackers at Grandma’s house to remind me of who I am and where I belong.
Maybe you don’t have a grandma like mine, but we do share the same heavenly Father.
1 Corinthians 1:9 says, “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Because of God’s faithfulness, you were called, literally invited, to be friends and family with Jesus. But, we don’t have to go to any physical place to experience His presence. Instead, He chooses to dwell within us. To make our hearts His home. He gives us a place to belong everywhere we go because His presence comes with us.
Just like with my grandma. I know His love never changes. Hebrews 13:8 says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Our relationship doesn’t hinge on our faithfulness, but His.
I feel free to be myself at my grandma’s house. But, that same freedom goes with me wherever I go because I’m a child of a faithful God. Even through the crashing waves, I know I’m safe with Him. I know His love won’t fail.
Have you taken His invitation into that peace today? His Word promises, “He keeps him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Him.” (Isaiah 26:3) When you dwell within the hope of God’s unfailing love, you’ll never doubt His faithfulness.
