FINDING REST IN THIS CRAZY BUSY WORLDಮಾದರಿ
SABBATH REST
God finished His creation work on the seventh day. After that, He celebrated with trumpets, harps, music, dance, and partied until the cows came home. I can see you shaking your head, saying, "No! That's not how it happened!" You're right. He didn't do that. He rested from all his work, blessed the seventh day, and made it holy.
God didn't rest because He was tired or ran out of steam or ideas. God never tires, not even after having created everything from the tiniest nanoparticle to the farthest galaxy in the universe. He rested because His creation was complete and to set a pattern for us to follow. He established the Sabbath, a day He blessed and made holy, meaning set apart. It was a day set aside for rest and not work. Remembering the Sabbath and keeping it holy is the fourth of God's Ten Commandments given to Moses on Mount Sinai. If God prioritized rest one day a week, how much more should we?
The Sabbath is a gift from God that allows us to remember and rejoice that God is our maker, and we are His beloved children. When we observe a regular time to rest and worship in this crazy busy world, we demonstrate how important God is to us, and replenish our physical bodies and spiritual soul. Any physician will tell you that rest is essential, and God is our great physician. The Sabbath practice may not come easy at first, since we usually don't use the word Sabbath as a word for rest. But it's God's command, and as such, should be obeyed. Rest isn't laziness. It's rebooting, recharging, and replenishing for our good.
Try to include time in your schedule this week to rest, reflect, and replenish intentionally. Shut down your computers, laptops, and cell phones to avoid the urge to check an e-mail, text, or social media post. If you have children, have them unplug as well and spend some quality quiet time together. Spend time in nature, and be still, knowing that He is God. Acknowledge God's sovereign control over your life and rest, in obedience to God.
