Growing As An Enneagram Nine: The Peacemakerಮಾದರಿ
Running to God for Peace Every Day
It is easy to believe the lie that we can manufacture peace. It is easy to believe that we can create the kind of life that we long for apart from the Lord. As a Nine, this lie can subtly slip into your thinking.
If I could just mend that relationship...
If I could just have a moment of quiet...
If my kids would just get along...
If I was caught up at work...
...then I’d have peace.
How would you finish this sentence today? Be as honest as you can with the Lord and yourself. “If I could just have ____, then I’d have peace.”
No matter how much better solving that problem would make you feel, the truth is that peace doesn’t come from you or your circumstances. You can experience real peace even when things are painful and broken, dark and hard. This is such good news, even if it seems hard to believe. You are not stuck waiting for things to change, many of which are outside of your control. You are invited to experience real peace, perfect peace, right now.
When you remember that the Lord is the true source of peace, you’ll stop looking elsewhere for your peace. Of course, this is easier said than done. There’s no magic formula in finding peace; it comes from fixing your mind again and again on the Lord. This means you choose to trust Him as much when things are going the way you’d like as when things are feeling anything but good. This choice to trust Him is something you are invited into, every day, every moment.
Pause and name the things you believe are necessary for you to have perfect peace. Ask the Lord to reveal the things, people, or circumstances you have been looking to as your source of peace. Confess this sin to the Lord, asking for His help to trust Him and keep your mind fixed on Him. He wants to be your source of peace in your real, day-to-day life.

About this Plan
The Enneagram is an ancient personality typology. The theory behind it is that a person assumes one of nine personalities in childhood as a reaction to discovering the world as a scary, unkind place, and thus unlikely to accept their true self. This devotional is designed for Enneagram Nines, also known as the Peacemaker.
