DAY 6 OF 7

Who Gives?

Lesson:

Who should I ask? Well, there’s that person who is rich. Or that couple in the church who are super spiritual. What about pastors? They must want to be a part of the vision that God has given me. So, who should I approach? Let’s take a look at the story of Nehemiah again.

Nehemiah was funded mainly by King Artaxerxes, BUT there was a whole list of other people that worked on the wall and gave their time, talents, and most likely their treasure to the mission as well. Here is a list of those people collected from chapter 3 of Nehemiah:

  • ·High priests
  • ·Men of other regions
  • Goldsmiths
  • Perfume-makers
  • Multiple rulers of a half-districts
  • Daughters of the rulers of a half-districts
  • District rulers
  • Levites
  • Countrymen
  • Priests from surrounding regions
  • Temple servants
  • Priests
  • Guards at the East Gate
  • Merchants

What we can see from this list is that there were all kinds of people that felt passionate about the vision that God gave to Nehemiah. They wanted to be a part of it. Let’s not take away the opportunity to join His mission from anyone that God might lay on our hearts. Jesus didn’t stop the widow from giving her two small coins to the temple, even though she didn’t have much. He wouldn’t take away from her the joy to give. Let’s not rob that chance for joy from those around us. God might just surprise us with those who He will bring to our team.

Reflection:

Who is on my list of potential donors? Do I exclude people before I give them a chance to be asked? If I do, why do I do that?
