COUNT THE COST: THE CONSEQUENCES OF INACTION
Scripture Reflection
“If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die.” (Esther 4:14 NLT)
Those who think they have no time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness. ~ Edward Stanley
Yesterday we looked at some of the sacrifices and costs associated with reaching your weight release goals. But have you ever thought about the costs associated with not reaching your goal? What will happen if you don’t stop your poor eating habits? Your lack of physical activity? If you don’t stop consuming so much sugar, fat, and calories? What will it cost your family? What will the cost be to your self-esteem? Your relationships? Your joy?
It’s difficult to take a long hard look at all the costs of unfulfilled goals and desires. Sometimes the pain is so difficult to face that we would much rather hide our head in the sand than face the truth about how much pain we are causing ourselves. However, until we confront the pain that we are causing ourselves and others, we will never be motivated enough to want to move past it.
In the book of Esther, we see a woman faced with a difficult decision. Although she was a queen and enjoyed the benefits of the king’s power and wealth, her position came with a price. She could have lived a comfortable life in a palace with a king but the costs meant jeopardizing the safety of the entire Jewish race. An entire race may not be dependent on your weight loss, but then again, the legacy of health that you leave for your family might be. Will you leave them a legacy of blessings or curses?

Today’s Confession
All things work together for good. My pain will turn into laughter, my cross will be exchanged for a crown, and my mourning will be turned into dancing. I am blessed and I am a blessing. My disappointments in the past will be turned into testimonies in the name of Jesus.
