Crash

DAY 4 OF 30

“Follow me”

Jesus crashed into lots of people during his time on Earth. But in each encounter, He talked with and treated people in ways that no one else did. Now Jesus asks Matthew, who was a tax collector known for lying and cheating, to follow Him.

Matthew, a tax collector, had been part of the crowd that was following Jesus in his ministry. Jesus had gotten to know Matthew and decided that Matthew should follow Him. Not just for one night – but to become His disciple.

The first place Jesus takes Matthew is back to his own home, where other tax collectors would feel comfortable. He shows Matthew that it is important to sit down and reach out to those who need the love of God most.

As the Pharisees see Jesus with the tax collectors, they are confused as to why a “religious” or good man would be sitting around sinners. Jesus responds to their questions by saying He has come for those who need God’s love, and that He desires for us to show love to others more than simply doing good things.
