Ever After

DAY 2 OF 5

Today’s Habits = Tomorrow’s Wins

Nobody wants a good thing to end. When you get addicted to a Netflix show and you finish the last episode, you’re usually left wanting more. When you have an incredible night with your friends, you wish you could go back and relive it. And when you meet with God — when your eyes are opened and you get a glimpse of what He sees — your soul longs for more of that.

Thankfully, God is a well that never runs dry. God isn’t like a Netflix show — your experience with Him doesn’t have to end when summer camp ends or when the worship band walks off the stage.

You won’t be able to control every aspect of your “happily ever after” — things will happen every day that are beyond your control — but you can control your habits

If you’re coming out of a camp or conference, you probably feel the weight of not wanting to lose what you just experienced. You heard from God, and now you’re inspired and you want to keep the momentum going. Maybe you’re desperate for a change. Maybe you’re longing for security and stability. Your moment with God was a catalyst for that change, but your life will never be fully transformed until you change something you do daily.

Joshua was a powerful leader who witnessed miracles and won battles because of his daily habits.

In Joshua 1:8, God taught Joshua how to keep the momentum going, even when he was in between miracles and facing opposition. He said, “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

There are three habits straight from Joshua’s playbook that you can begin practicing today.

  1. Memorize scripture
  2. Fill your mind with God’s Word by listening to sermons, reading devotionals like this one, and surrounding yourself with people who help you better understand the Bible
  3. Obey God’s Word (The more you do steps 1 and 2, the easier this will be)

Each of those three things can become part of your daily habits, just like brushing your teeth (hopefully that’s a daily habit) and checking IG.

There were moments in Joshua’s journey when he didn’t feel inspired, but habits will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not.

Create a small habit today that will keep your eyes on Jesus. What if you looked inside your Bible before you looked outside at all the people and devices screaming for your attention? It’s a small habit that may not change the events of your day, but it will certainly change how you view your day. Maybe you’ve got some bad habits you need to kick. It takes a habit to break a habit, so start picking up some things that are worth repeating.

The habits you walk in today determine the wins you’ll experience tomorrow. Make a habit out of meeting with Jesus, going to eGroup, listening to sermons, and reading more devotionals like this one!

About this Plan

Ever After

When you see what God sees, it changes you. But what do you do when you’ve been changed, but your circumstances remain the same? How do you transition from an extraordinary experience back to ordinary routines? What you do next is just as important as what you experienced during YTHX. Check out this five-day devotional to learn how to keep the momentum going after having a moment with God!
