There's Hope For Today

DAY 48 OF 366

When James Calvert went out as a missionary to the cannibals of the Fiji Islands, the captain of the transport ship sought to turn him back. As the long boat bobbed in the green waters, ready to row the small party ashore, the captain called out, “You will lose your life and the lives of those with you if you go among such savages.” Calvert looked up from the long boat and ended all discussion with a simple reply, “We died before we came here.”

Paul was warned by the Holy Spirit of trouble ahead. The tears and entreaties of friends could not dissuade him. Paul possessed an unshakable faith; he made an unconditional surrender; he set an unalterable course and would not be moved. Paul viewed himself as one crucified with Christ and dead to sin. Paul was sold out!

Such an unswerving commitment is rare in an age of comfort and compromise, and desperately needed. Modern cynicism has strangled the notion of a noble cause. Relativity has blanketed truth in a heavy fog. This generation will only believe in truth we are willing to back with our lives.

Be unmovable in your faith. If it’s not worth dying for, it’s probably not worth living for.
