Real Hope: Loneliness

DAY 1 OF 5

NEVER ALONE

David’s been having a tough time. He’s felt overwhelmed by enemies and alone in facing those who oppose him. However, right at the top of this Psalm, David says, ‘In you, Lord God, I put my trust’.

There are times when we feel alone, even amongst friends and family. Sometimes it’s a temporary thing; other times it takes over us for a while. In either case, we feel like we’re battling against everyone and everything and losing on all sides.

But David reminds us that God is there with us and that is why he calls out to God. He acknowledges how he is feeling ‘lonely and afflicted’ and he asks God to relieve the troubles of his heart and free him from what is bothering him.

God is our protector in all times whether we’re feeling happy or sad, close or far away, lonely or content. We can call on God and know that He hears us and can rescue us from these feelings of loneliness. As David writes in verse 5: ‘Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Saviour, and my hope is in you all day long.’

God is our hope, all the time, all day and all night. It is this hope that gives us assurance and certainty of the loving, caring God in whom we trust and rely on for everything in every situation. It is this hope that tells us that we are never alone.

About this Plan

Real Hope: Loneliness

You can feel lonely by yourself or in the biggest crowd, surrounded by people and still feel lonely. It is a feeling that doesn’t discriminate and can come upon us at a moment’s notice. But how do we cope with it? Can we see God in these moments? This plan aims to help us consider our response to loneliness and how we can seek God in these moments.
