[#life Series] Parenting Part 1

DAY 9 OF 9

Favor and Respect

We have been meditating on the millenary wisdom of the Bible for parenting eight days straight now. Proverbs 3:3, written by King Solomon, has been our guiding light. In following verse, we are told that the result of raising our families under the framework of a team with loyalty, love, and faithfulness, is favor and respect with God and man.

This sounds a lot like what the Gospel of Luke says about Jesus when He was a kid and was growing in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and with man. What this tells us is that we will become more like Jesus Christ as we grow in these things.

Remember what we started with: “I am doing the best I can, but I need Jesus.” We are not trying to be perfect parents, just to have presence in their lives. We are doing it as vessels the Lord can fill and use. Through the pain, the joy, the struggle, the triumph, we let God do something.

A lot of people call me Pastor Gregg. Only two call me Dad. Those two know that they are more important to me than the church, my books, traveling, or success. After Jesus and my wife, they are the most important people to me. I would give my life to them and for them. And that is the unique role that can’t be squandered and cannot be taken for granted in our lives.

There is not a person reading this that is saying, “I don’t want to do a great job as a parent.” All of us are doing the best we can. We just need Jesus. We need the Heavenly Father. He is the only one who is able to do it.

Maybe you just want to pray and thank God. Tell Him that you trust Him, ask Him to speak to you, plead with Him to move greatly in your life.

Parents, if you haven’t done so yet, you may want to take some time to pray and give your heart to the Lord. Pray for your family. If you are a single adult, maybe you just need to pray for your parents (you didn’t know how complex this parenting thing is). Thank God for them. Maybe that means to take a step further in your relationship with God. Whatever it is, let us respond to Him.

About this Plan

[#life Series] Parenting Part 1

Parents, our children don’t need perfection, they need our presence. God wants to use us uniquely in their lives through the ups, downs, joys, and struggles. Make your family a priority and your home a place where their hearts are built up. If we aim at the heart, apply the wisdom of team building, and respond to His calling, He will make much more than we ever expected.
