UNPACK this...Confusion, Worry, and Uncertaintyಮಾದರಿ
Help My Unbelief
NFL free agency always results in several players leaving one team to sign with new teams. With so much movement, it’s hard to keep up with who is going where and understand why certain moves are made.
I struggle with whether or not certain signings make any sense for the player or the team. When I think a team is rebuilding, and they go ahead and sign a veteran quarterback to be their starter, I can't wrap my mind around the transaction.
Grappling with some of these shocking NFL offseason moves parallels the unbelief we’re experiencing in our current reality. Our faith is being tested as we struggle to comprehend what's going on with the Coronavirus and the confusion surrounding us.
Despite all of our questions, we can believe that God is still good, faithful, and sovereign. He wants to show us His glory, love, and grace and how real and powerful He is. He’ll meet us right where we are and reveal Himself to us – even in our unbelief.
We are reminded of this in Mark 9:22-25 when told about the father who brings his son to Jesus to heal him from an unclean spirit.
The father says to Jesus, “’…But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘If you can! All things are possible for one who believes.’ Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, ‘I believe; help my unbelief!’ And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, ‘You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.’”
The father’s response, “I believe; help my unbelief” can be encouraging to us today as we cry out to Jesus. Whatever we’re facing that is challenging our faith or beliefs right now, we must know that we can trust He is real and His Word is true.
Today, let’s ask Him to help our unbelief so we can believe in His power and clearly see Him…even when things don’t make sense. I’m Bryce Johnson and you can UNPACK that!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I believe in You and know Your Word is true. Please help me during moments of doubt and unbelief. I trust You’re good, powerful, and loving, and believe You can do the impossible. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
