Thinking Like a Boss Through Fear, Disappointment, and Uncertainty

DAY 3 OF 7

I AM Strong

Day Three

Scripture: Habakkuk 3:19 NIV 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 NIV

When we’re faced with a difficult season, it’s easy to focus on how helpless or weak we feel. But what if we could begin to replace those negative thoughts with the past evidence from seasons that we survived?

I began to harness this power after feeling I had lost my business after having my first child. When the pandemic hit I once again felt a familiar panic and asked myself: “How am I going to run my business with the kiddos home with me 24/7? I’ve been used to running it on part-time hours, but now I will have zero help.” My mind began going down a dark road. Flashbacks from a past season of “failure” began to play. And then it hit me: not only did I survive a past season that felt like failure in the moment, but I rebuilt and came out of it in a better place than before.

I decided to ditch the narrative of, “I’m going to fail again”, and replace it with the truth of, “I CAN survive hard times because I've survived hard times before.” When I made that decision and embraced that mindset, running a business with kids home didn’t feel as daunting.

I keep a framed gold-lettered print in my office with a variation of Habakkuk 3:19, "The Lord God is my strength, my bravery. He will walk me through places of trouble and suffering."

How powerful is this reminder? When I am weak, then I am strong as 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 NIV states.

We simply have to show up.

We simply have to ask.

We simply have to trust and lean on Christ to be our strength, even when we don’t have it.

Now begin telling yourself you are strong. If God has brought you through trying seasons in the past (which he has because you’re reading this), He will surely give you the strength to get through this next one.

Reflection:

  1. Think back to a hopeless season you were able to come out of. Remind yourself of the strength you found to move through it, and thank the Lord for His faithfulness at that time.
  2. Begin journaling and documenting hard times so you are reminded of your strength and resilience and God's faithfulness when weakness creeps towards you in the future.
