Staying Focused in Uncertain Timesಮಾದರಿ
Title: Focus on the Lord
In uncertain times, it's tempting to have our focus on the news, on different statistics, on our situation, on other people's situations, on what other people think about what we are doing, or on what other people are doing. All of these things aren't bad to think about in and of themselves. But when they dominate our thoughts, they're mini-idols. Things we are putting our hope and security in other than the Lord.
To find the peace and productivity we desire, we need to come back to the basics of the first commandment.
Jesus was questioned about the great commandment in the law, "And He said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the great and foremost commandment." ~Matthew 22:37-38
We can cultivate this focus on the Lord through the daily patterns of our lives. For example, that could look like doing a daily devotional, reading the Bible, praying, journaling, worshiping, listening to a sermon, or putting our minds on other things that remind us of God.
I personally like to start my day with Bible reading and prayer. I listen to worship music throughout the day. And then when I have times when I feel unsettled, I will take time to journal or go on a prayer walk.
Even with all that's going on that feels so big and so overwhelming and can make us feel small and powerless in comparison, we can take great comfort in knowing that God is so much bigger than any other power in the whole earth.
"Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket,
And are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales;
Behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust." ~Isaiah 40:15
