How God's Promises Are Delivered ಮಾದರಿ
Yet, You Are Never Alone
by Rev. Joel Gaertner
It is said that loneliness is one of the most difficult things that people struggle with, especially older adults.
It is one thing to feel alone in this life. It is a whole different thing to feel alone and separated from God. That is how Elijah felt as he spoke the words of our verse for this week. As we can say, Elijah was having a pity party. He was thinking poor me. I’ve done all this for God and now here I am all alone. You’ve probably felt the same way at some point in your life.
God let Elijah have this pity party and then God gave Elijah a reality check. He helped Elijah see that he was far from alone and just wasn’t seeing or thinking clearly.
How many times has God listened to your pity party? And how many times did He help you to see that you had failed to reach out for help, blown a situation out of proportion, or failed to see those whom God had placed around you to help you?
Over and over in the Bible, God reaffirms his promise that he is always with us as he speaks words such as “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
God never promises us a life free from trouble. He does, however, promise us that when trouble comes our way, we can turn to him and know that he is always there to help us through and give us peace. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
So if or when you feel alone, run to these promises of our God and know that even if you feel like Elijah and think that you are all alone, God is by your side and will never leave you. You are never alone!
Prayer
Gracious God, forgive me for those times when I have failed to see or trust your presence and guidance in my life. Keep me close to you and your promises as I feed my soul with the refreshing and strengthening power of your Word. When doubts and fears arise, help me to look to you and your precious promises. I ask this in the name of Jesus, my ever present Savior. Amen.
