Get Ready to be Astounded!
In life, some obstacles are harder to face or easier to avoid than others. Sometimes we may even feel as if there is no way we can overcome or face difficulty. The mountain seems insurmountable. These situations bring out the best and the worst in us. Today, I want to encourage you to trust Jesus and to get ready to be astonished!
The paralyzed man had a physical problem that no man could solve. That is for sure. But if we go deeper, he was in an even more dangerous and fatal situation than a mere physical disability. Most people do not realize that they are in desperate need of eternal salvation. Jesus not only took care of this man’s health, He also addressed his spiritual need—his sins were forgiven.
Jesus looked at this man and saw a crippling internal agony, one that was beyond the physical aspect of his needs. His soul longed for spiritual healing. He told him, “...Friend, your sins are forgiven” (Luke 5:20, NVI). Jesus forgave his sins and called him friend! This is what salvation is all about; our relationship with God is completely restored, and we go from being enemies to friends.
Jesus always gives us more than we can ever imagine and bargain for! When He intervenes, His work surpasses our wildest imagination and dreams. Salvation is the greatest miracle and gift we can receive, and was made available for us at a very high price. God Himself had to come and offer His life for each one of us. Let us honor His sacrifice by sharing the good news of salvation to all those who may be “paralyzed” by sin.
I can promise you that you will be the first to be blown away by God’s mercy and grace. The Bible tells us that after seeing the miracle performed by Jesus, everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. Those who were at the house were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today” (Luke 5:26, NVI).
Today, I want to encourage you to put your trust in Jesus and get ready to be astounded. You can be certain of this: Jesus will always give you more than you bargained for! Fuel your faith tank with an eager expectation to see God’s hand upon your life. Get ready to share your faith with that one friend you know is spiritually paralyzed by sin. Overcome every obstacle that may come your way; the eternal destiny of that one person was all Jesus thought of when He was nailed on the cross. His suffering was worth the price of your friend’s soul. Keep moving and get ready to be astounded!
