What is faith in Jesus Christ?
It is trusting in Jesus alone and what he has done for our salvation.
Can we actually believe that God loves us just the way we are? It’s so counterintuitive to our merit-based way of thinking: You get what you earn, no more and no less. But that’s not what the Bible says about God.
The Bible says that God created the world and he created human beings to live in the world and reflect his image. And when we sinned and it all went wrong, the Bible says that God sent his Son, Jesus, to rescue us.
God created us out of his own free will and love. And that the same God, out of that same free will and love, sent Jesus to rescue us.
But doesn’t it cost us something? Don’t we owe something? Don’t we have to be good enough, kind enough, holy enough?
No.
We can’t add anything or take anything away from God’s love. We don’t owe anyone anything for it. We don’t have to be good enough. It’s a free gift to be celebrated and cherished.
Spend some time today praying and asking God to remind you that you don’t have to earn his love, that you don’t have to earn his grace. Ask God to remind you that he loves you no matter what, and that all you have to do is trust him.
