Love God Greatly: Risen

DAY 25 OF 40

When the people in ancient Israel offered sacrifices to God, they took an animal from their herds, either a bull, lamb, or goat and presented it to God. When the priest laid his hands on the head of the animal he transferred the sins of the people onto the animal. The animal then bore the sins of the people. The animal was killed as a sacrifice, dying as a substitute for the people who had sinned.

Christ is the once for all sacrifice for sin. When the animals were sacrificed, they only covered the people until they sinned again. Those sacrifices were not eternal. Because of His eternal nature, the sacrifice of Christ covers the sins of His people for eternity. Like the animals in the Levitical sacrificial system, Christ bore the sins of many when He died on the cross. His offering was only needed once to eternally bring forgiveness for our sins.

Lord God, thank You for providing an eternal sacrifice for our sins. Thank You for allowing Jesus to offer Himself as an eternal sacrifice and for bearing the sins of many. Help me to live in light of the salvation I have and not as a slave to sin. Amen.
