Learning from OT Greats: Joseph - From the Pit to the Palaceಮಾದರಿ
Day 5: Pharaoh’s Dream
Thoughts on the Passage
Pharaoh knows the dreams are important. Pharaoh is a smart ruler as well. When he finds someone capable of hearing from God and willing to speak God’s word, wise in advice, and careful in his actions….he finds a place for him in the government.
A high place in the government….the highest place in the government.
Joseph is now in charge of preparing the nation for the upcoming famine. It is a job that is a full of danger and risk. Joseph has handled a big household well. Joseph has handled a prison well. This is much, much bigger. He is given the job, not because he has great experience, but because the king trusts Joseph. He trusts the Spirit of God in him. He trusts a man who has demonstrated godly wisdom in his presence.
Even bigger than this, we see the hand of God at work. God is about to fulfill a promise that He gave to Abraham. God needs Joseph in charge of Egypt to accomplish this. So God has trained Joseph; God has humbled Joseph; and now God can use Joseph. The day to advance Joseph has arrived and God gives him favor in the eyes of Pharaoh. In the end it is God’s plan – not Pharaoh’s plan. That is important to remember.
Remember that today – wherever you find yourself.
Application to our Life
What is God’s plan for my day today? It may be simple. It may be big. It is the plan that we need to follow. When we think we receive favor because of our great abilities and skill… remember Joseph!
Time to Pray
Father, humility is such an important trait to have in our lives. We get all caught up with what we can do and what should happen in our lives – in reality, it is Your plan that is being worked out regardless of our manipulating of situations to make us look ready. Today, I just want to be faithful in what You ask of me. What comes in the future depends on my faithfulness today.
What happens in the future depends upon things You are weaving together. I want my life to be blessed because I line up with what You want to do – not what I think I am able to accomplish. That takes humility. That is what I ask for today. In Jesus name, Amen.

About this Plan
When we think about Joseph, one of the first things that comes to mind is DREAMER. We look at the life of Joseph and the process that he went through both spiritually and physically to get from the pit to the palace. In Joseph’s life we see the importance of God’s Timing as well as His Hand over one’s life – despite what things look like on the outside.
