Like A Flower In The Field By Struik Christian Mediaಮಾದರಿ
Worthy to be included
When you think of Jesus’ family, a pagan-worshiping prostitute is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. Surely the lineage of Jesus is filled with purity and piety, and men and women who loved, served and feared the Lord for generations?
Think again. Time and time again we see examples of God using the most unlikely candidates, and Rahab is no exception. Born and raised in Jericho—a center for idol worship and one of the vilest and most evil cities at that time in history—Rahab worked as a prostitute. She was in no way viewed as valuable or highly esteemed by her community.
Yet, having heard that the God of Israel was One to fear and revere, she immediately embraced Him and was willing to risk everything for Him. Her life does not only foreshadow the Church today—the inclusion of Gentiles within God’s family—but she was also worthy to be named in the lineage of Jesus: She was the great-great-grandmother of King David. Rahab shows us that we are all worthy to be considered family of God. God’s invitation of salvation and friendship is available to everyone, and no one is too far gone for Him to reach and love.
Rahab was a prostitute . . . not a woman you would consider capable of shining much light on anyone. But God is no respecter of persons. He looks not at the person, but at their heart. He works through all circumstances if you will but yield your heart to Him. Rahab fulfilled God’s greater purpose to save her and her family.
Never disqualify yourself—shine wherever you are!
Prayer
God, I pray that I never forget what You have done in my life and that You have included me in Your family. Let my past be a constant reminder of Your unfailing love. Amen.
God takes the most unlikely and broken stories and turns them into masterpieces.
