How Do You Forgive The Big Stuff?
The scripture in today's devotional is the perfect picture of forgiveness under what seems like an impossible situation. Jesus is hanging on a jagged, wooden cross about to die for the sins of people who don’t even accept him. He was made fun of for living out his purpose in life, always being threatened and made fun of, and he is still asking the Father to forgive them. If there was a good example of forgiving the big stuff, this is one example for us to take a close look at.
It isn’t easy when you have lost someone or something special. When you’ve been through a very tough time in your life, it is hard to forgive the people who caused you pain. The grief and sorrow, the anger and rage can feel like it will choke you out. You may even be mad at God for letting you go through such horrible pain and not doing anything to stop it. God knew just how you would feel when His only son was hanging on the cross dying. He had to stand by and watch while he held back from destroying man for their hateful behavior. God did this so that He could save our lives from punishment forever. If Christ could pray for forgiveness for those mean and hateful things, so can you. It may not be easy so to forgive the person who hurt you, left you, scarred or betrayed you. I can tell you that God covers the BIG and the small things. He’s waiting for you to reach out to Him so that He can help you forgive one step at a time.
Talk to the King | Prayer
God, I have some things that we need to talk about so that I can be ready to forgive. I’ve been hurt in a way that is very deep. I also have some small things that I’ve been holding on to for too long. I’m coming to you to ask for your help, your guidance, and your direction so that I can learn how to forgive. Show me how and help me to make it a lifestyle.
