What Are Spiritual Gifts?ಮಾದರಿ
How Do I Know What My Gifts Are?
Are you ready for the fun part? Now, you get to identify what your spiritual gifts are. It’s not difficult because chances are, you may already know. Consider asking yourself the following questions:
- What is the Holy Spirit telling me?
- What is something I enjoy doing?
- Am I fulfilled when I do it?
- What do other people tell me I’m good at?
- What have I done that has made a huge difference in someone’s life?
When you find your gifts, you may feel that it just comes easy for you. And that’s usually how a gift works. It’s not your talent or skills, but an ability that is beyond you. That in order to do this thing, you just do it as naturally as taking your next breath. Here are a few more thoughts to help you land on what your gifts are:
- If you say nice things to people regularly, you’re an encourager.
- If you proclaim God’s truth to everyone, you’re a prophet.
- If you are constantly giving to people in need, you’re a giver.
- If you learn something and can’t wait to tell someone, you’re a teacher.
- If you share Jesus with everyone you can, you’re an evangelist.
As we live our lives for Christ, other people around us may see gifts in us that we don’t see. Don’t be embarrassed to tell people you are trying to find your gifts. Request their assistance, because those close to you may notice something in you that you don’t!
Knowing our gift isn’t necessary before we start using it. When we see someone whose faith is weak or faltering, we can offer help. We can never let our lack of a spiritual gift keep us from obeying what the Bible says. There are people who are gifted with encouragement but we are all told in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 to “encourage one another and build each other up…” Many are gifted with showing mercy but we are all told in Luke 6:36 to “be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
After you’ve given a lot of thought to the information above, consider taking a spiritual gifts test. This is one of the most common ways that people figure out what their gifts are. There are many tests on the Internet — we suggest doing two or three different tests to see if they give you the same conclusion. However, these tests are man-made and were never meant to replace the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Invite God’s Spirit to lead you as you begin this quest to be all He has called you to be for His Kingdom and His people.
Reflect
- Think about the things you excel in and find easy to do. How could you use those to impact someone else?
- Ask a couple of close, Christian friends where they have seen you make a positive difference in someone’s life.
