Finding God In Your Depression

DAY 4 OF 7

Day 4

Maybe you’re struggling to believe that a brighter day can come for you. You’ve gotten used to feeling down and out, lonely, misunderstood, and heartbroken. But imagine for a minute that things can change for the better. Imagine how your heart would be glad! I invite you into David’s experience, which gives us hope that God hears our cries for help and is willing to meet us at our lowest point. Like David, we can find ourselves in a new day, with a song on our lips and rejoicing in our hearts.

Pray

God, I want to be joyful. I want to believe that a new and brighter day can dawn for me. Help me believe.

Read

David praises God for delivering him out of dark despair.

Psalm 40:1-3

Reflect

David describes his circumstance as “a dangerous pit” and “deadly quicksand” (GNT). How would you describe where you are or how you feel? As David waited patiently on God things changed. He experienced God’s deliverance and was able “to sing a new song.” How can David’s testimony encourage you to wait patiently on God’s deliverance?

Respond

Ask God to give you the strength you need to wait for his deliverance. Even if you don’t feel like it, begin to sing in expectation of the change coming your way.

About this Plan

Finding God In Your Depression

The Bible may seem an unlikely source to turn to for answers, but there’s no mistaking the face of depression as a psalmist cries out to God in anguish or as Job laments the day of his birth. Amid their pain and suffering, they find hope in God. Their accounts and the encouraging words of others in Scripture can help you navigate the murky waters of depression.
